Exciting news: I’ll be directing the premiere of Donnacha Dennehy’s new opera The Hunger at the 2016 BAM Next Wave Festival in New York, performed by Iarla Ó Lionáird, Katherine Manley and Alarm Will Sound, conducted by Alan Pierson and designed by Jim Findlay. Performances on 30th September and 1st October. The brilliant photo is by Colm Hogan. Tickets and info here.
Pan Pan International Mentorship and Bursary
I’m currently participating in the Pan Pan International Mentorship and Bursary Programme for 2016, thanks to the kind folks at Pan Pan. The main focus of the International Mentorship and Bursary Programme is for theatre and performance makers to buy time to work on an idea in its early development stages, outside of the pressures of production, and supported by the Arts Council’s Theatre Artist Development Scheme.
As part of the programme I’m tentatively starting to think about One Day: a twenty-four-hour long stage production of James Joyce’s Ulysses, under the mentorship of the brilliant Stewart Laing. The programme will culminate in a symposium in Dublin in August, where all the great participants will discuss the projects they’ve been developing.
